Go Back To Where?

Go Back to Where? explores identity and belonging through the experiences of people navigating multiple cultural realities at once. Rooted in themes of migration, mixed heritage, and diasporic identity, the project examines what it means to exist between cultures while constantly having one’s identity questioned or reduced.

Shot within distinctly British landscapes, the work places cultural clothing, symbolism, and personal styling into environments strongly associated with British identity. These visual contrasts reflect the tension between heritage and environment, tradition and modernity, while highlighting the fluid and layered nature of identity itself.

The title challenges the all too common demand for immigrants and ethnically diverse communities to “go back”, a phrase that disregards the realities of those born between cultures, histories, and places. But where is “back” when identity cannot be confined to a single nation, culture, or origin? The project invites viewers to reconsider what it truly means to belong.
